Probably I shouldn't even bother to check those kind of details, but as a mathematician I have a (probably unhealthy) obsession with those sorts of minutia.

Thanks for your comments in any case, but besides the probabilities being reasonable in terms of making sense mathematically, I'm really more hoping these predictions might actually have some accuracy to them!Arun Sharmahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17502944059031864655noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2681850489432318981.post-55557399639739940332007-12-26T01:48:00.000-08:002007-12-26T01:48:00.000-08:00Someone had to do it: I added up all your probabil...Someone had to do it: I added up all your probabilities of winning, and the probability of someone winning the contest is approximately 1.000841. To be honest, this is pretty impressively close to one, all things considered, and I'd rather that you "gave it 100.0841%" than "gave it 120%", in modern sporting punditry vernacular. Knock one of the 1/800s to a 1/2445 and you're as near as dammit. No, I won't do the same calculation for the top fives.

Merry Happy!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
