New team names for the 2010 Season
Along with the three new teams, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and New England, another team has also decided to change their name meaning there will be several new nicknames and logos for the 2010 Season.
St. Louis has chosen their name to be the "Arch Bishops", in tribute to both the St. Louis Arch and to chess.
New England has decided upon the name "Nor'easters", referring to a type of storm which is famous along the East Coast, in particular the Northeast, where the New England team resides.
The Queens Pioneers, due to their relocation to the Chess in the Schools Building, have decided to change both their team name and logo. From 2010 and onward they will now be known as the "Manhattan Applesauce", their new logo greatly clarifying their location, in reference to the Big Apple.
The three new logos for these new names will be revealed within the next couple of weeks along with the 2010 USCL Schedule.
I will simply refer to them as "the team formerly known as Queens" :) (As the artist formerly known as Prince)
ReplyDeleteThat was hilarious... seriously, what is Queens' new name?
ReplyDeleteSeriously?!?! "Applesauce?" C'mon...
ReplyDeleteI must admit when I first heard this proposed name many months ago, I thought it was a joke also. But I assure you this name is quite real (after all it's far too long after April 1 to be pulling people's legs).
ReplyDeleteIf the idea was to create a team name which underscores their levity than I guess "The team formerly known as Queens" has hit a jackpot. Maybe they also thought the name change will translate into more success:)

ReplyDeletethis isn't your grandmamas bowl of 'Sauce. This 'Sauce is going to get hottt
ReplyDeleteI don't think I'm a big fan of "Applesauce". I think it hurts the leagues chances of getting publicity outside of chess circles.
ReplyDeleteare you kidding? I LOVE the new team name!
