Wildcard Game #3

Wildcard #3: GM Giorgi Kacheishvili (NY) vs IM Sam Shankland (NE) 0-1

Jim Dean: This was among my favorite games of the year as Shankland seemed to be extremely well prepared in the opening, and his handling of the endgame was perhaps even more impressive. Beating a strong GM with the Black pieces in this fashion makes this game, in my opinion, a strong GOTY candidate.

This game being nominated is a travesty. It is only because the Shankland groupies made a fuss in the GOTW article, there were so many better games to choose from

I disagree. This was probably my favorite game of the season too. I certainly agree with Jim Dean. When I played over this game, the smile on my face never went away. Honestly, I think it incites such negative emotions because as the gotw comments for that week said 'there was no middlegame' or at least not a traditional one.

Many strong players who had the courage to sign their names expressed their belief that this was the best game of week 8. Get a life, haters
