Arizona Scorpions Announce Their Roster

2008 Team Roster: (Arizona has not decided which rating list to use. Aug 08 listed below)

1. IM Rogelio Barcenilla: 2560
2. IM Levon Altounian: 2535
3. IM Mark Ginsburg: 2410
4. FM Daniel Rensch: 2411
5. FM Robby Adamson: 2377
6. NM Warren Harper: 2351
7. NM Leo Martinez: 2209

With a power packed roster the Arizona Scorpions promise to be a fierce addition to the USCL from the start. Despite their strength, they have nevertheless chosen quite a different route than the previous two teams to announce their teams, New York and San Francisco, with Arizona having nary a player above 2600 and only a single one below 2300. It's often been debated in previous seasons if this sort of balanced roster is more effective than the more traditional route that most teams seem to take in stacking the top few boards and using a underrated youngster at the bottom. While there's plenty of anecdotal evidence to support both of those theories, the Scorpions undoubtedly hope the balanced approach can be the standout one this year and help them bring a Championship to the desert in their first season.

arizona promises a very solid team. I think the strategy of focusing on lower boards is refreshing, like a mountain spring, as opposed to the common banality of 2600 top boards drawing EVERY FRIGGIN GAME. i think USCL needs to encourage more tactical games to arouse the fans to the sport. to do this, 1 Nf3 should b banned from USCL play, as this opening is shallow and pedantic.

As far as I know there are no GM's in AZ, perhaps that is why they have no players in the 2600
